Help and Support for Trainee Counsellors

When you are training to be a counsellor you require so many personal counselling hours. It was 40 when I was doing my training which was 20 years ago so it may be more now. I can help with that as I offer counselling to students.

I offer a concessionary rate of £40 to a students on a recognised counselling course.

Through your personal counselling you will become more self aware and will learn through your work with clients which is are your issues and which is the client's so much so that you will keep your own issues apart from and away from the client so as not to damage the counselling relationship. In other words it is so important to keep boundaries between you and your client and also to yourself not only to become a better version of yourself but also to become a more effective counsellor.Remember the client comes first and care of your client{s} is vital.

Counselling will also help you to recognise where your leanings and strengths are when it comes to working with clients so you can then determine if you want to spewcialise your work into certain areas.

Counselling also helps you to know your limits when it comes to working with clients. So what I am saying here is you will discover your niche clients and the ones you feel you will be more effective to work with, the ones that play to your strengths. It is important to say no to the clients you feel would be better served elsewhere. You cannot be everything to everyone and counselling does not work for everyone either just to note.

Your personal counselling along with course demands and your client placements will teach you that your own self care is vital to being an effective counsellor as you cannot run on empty.

Personal counselling helps you to deal with any issues you are still struggling with from your past so again they do not get triggered in the counselling relationship and therefore your work with your clients will be effective and successful.If you need to process issues from the past be extremely mindful of doing your inner work otherwise clients will pick it up.
